Guy Fawkes Night

Hello lovely bloggers,

Today is the 5th of November, Guy Fawkes Night, now when I was a kid, we used to have bonfires and firecrackers to celebrate this event.  Although, unfortunately, no one cares about it any more (fireworks are now banned, when I was young you could buy them from the local milk bar!)

So, I was thinking all of you lovely U.S. stitchers have been so excited about Halloween and now Thanksgiving is coming up and we don't really have anything like this in Australia.  So,  I did a little google search and this is what I found:

A Guy Fawkes stitchery

It has the rhyme which we used to chant when I was young:

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot
We see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes Night commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605 when Guy Fawkes and other conspirators conspired to blow up King James I of England and his parliament.

Now for a reading update, I have just finished reading 'The Troika Dolls' by Mriranda Darling - cool cover, isn't it?  It is an adventure/thriller with an appealing heroine, Stevie Duveen.  A light read, but fun.

Well, that is about all from me now - don't forget to comment on this post if you want an extra entry in my giveaway.

We are off to a 21st tonight - I have had my hair done and I am about manicure my nails.

I am 5 for 5 for NaBloPoMo.

Hugs, Kaye xoxox

Bonfire night seems to pass us by in the UK too now. Halloween seems to be the thing, a shame really, we should remember our own history. We can still buy fireworks but most are big displays now. I bet if you asked the kids what bonfire night is all about not many would know, there again, they probably wouldn't know what Halloween is all about either, lol.

Well done so far with the NaBloPo Mo

It doesn't pass by in my part of the UK we have always had a bonfire and fireworks or gone to a display, there is one tonight and actually this is the first year we are not going or doing anything.

But I have just asked my 9 year old and he has just told me exactly what and why it is celebrated, he learnt this at school.
