An amazing Dollhouse.... Weekend away in Olinda Part 4

This is my last post about our weekend away in Olinda (which seems so very long ago now - sigh!) but I just had to share with you this amazing dollhouse which we saw in the village of Sassafras.  It belonged to the much married (for her times) Dame Zara Bate nee Dickens but whose second husband Harold Holt was seventeenth Prime Minister of Australia.  Harold Holt was the Prime Minister who tragically drowned on the Mornington Peninsular, his body was never found, allowing all sorts of outrageous conspiracy theories to form.  For example, he was really a spy and he had been collected by a submarine and taken off to live a life of luxury in some other country.

Anyway, Dame Zara obviously had a privileged childhood as you can see from this magnificent dollhouse.  Enjoy!

Isn't the detail amazing?

hugs,

Hi Kaye,

This doll house is incredible. Every room is
jammed with miniature versions of everyday
things (for the era it was made in anyways)
and there's so much to see. It's amazing
that everything is still in it's place after all
these years.

Our local theatre company (Georgetown
Little Theatre) put on a production of The
Lion in Winter back in the winter time too.
Our godson was in it and played Richard.
It's a great play for someone like me who
loves history and the many colourful
and larger then life men and women who
lived, loved and ... on occasion ... fought
and slayed their way through the centuries.

Remember Arsenic and Old Lace the movie
which stared Gary Grant. Sigh!! Hilarious
movie ... handsome man. Perfect.

I love your Santa Sack Kaye. It turned out
great. The fabric that you used is really
beautiful and I love that verse that you
stitched. Jeanette is going to be thrilled
with it.

Your orange fur boy is such a handsome
fellow. He looks like he's a good size too.
He's so much like my Rupert.

I am marking that recipe for orange short
bread for future use. My mouth is watering
just looking at the picture. Yum!!

Ouch!! Your poor arm. That's a nasty
burn. Hope it's healing now and doesn't
leave a scare. Your DS2 owes you a
bouquet of flowers I think. Although he
was a sweetie for making you the tea in
the first place.

Cheers!

Fabulous dollhouse. Such detail and wonderful miniatures. I think I enjoy them more now than when I was a young girl because I can appreciate the work that goes into them.
