God Bless.....

..... each and every one of you and, of course, my Dear Mother and Father.

Your prayers, kind thoughts and good wishes have wrought a miracle.  My Dear Mother, who was taken into Emergency in the early hours of Friday morning after a fall in the shower (just don't ask what she was doing in the shower at 2am!) with a core body temperature of 26 degrees Celsius (normal body temperature is 37 degrees), dehydrated and with kidney failure has confounded, amazed and pleased her doctors and us all completely by staying with us and is slowly recovering.  Her will to live is astounding!

Of course, her health has taken a battering and she is now at a lower level of health than before.  If it is at all possible she has lost even more weight and is positively skeletal! But the nurses and doctors at Monash Medical Centre (who are wonderful) are actually managing to get her to eat!

However, she is going to have to be placed into a nursing home when she is ready to be discharged from hospital.  This is a hard reality for my Dear Dad to face.  At 94 he has been her caregiver for the past several years and they have been married for over 67 years.  But he, too, fell in the shower and hit his head whilst he was trying to help her.  Luckily, he was not too hurt although he has a lump and a cut on his head. He stayed with me over the weekend and I noticed that he is very shaky and unsteady on his feet (more so than ever before) and he complained of feeling dizzy a lot.

So, some difficult, hard decisions ahead of us but at least she is still with us.  God Bless.

So, thank you so much again - your support, prayers and good wishes help me so much.  I am sorry if I do not get the chance to thank each of you personally but please know that I love you all and feel so privileged to call each of you my friend.

hugs, Kaye

Dear Dad and Mum with DS2 in happier times.

Wonderful news, Kaye...although I know the times ahead will be rough. Continued thoughts and prayers your way. Perhaps there is somewhere for your parents to still be able to be together?

So glad she is recovering. My aunt and uncle went into a nursing home together as roommates. The home fought this and wanted them separated, but they eventually won. He wasn't really requiring the care, but was too unsteady to live alone. Best wishes to them both.

I am glad your mum is doing better. Surely the nursing home is the best solution no matter how much it hurts. Couldn't they both stay together at a nursing home?AriadnefromGreece!

Great news Faye! I'm glad your mom is improving. Maybe there is a facility your dad can live in with your mom. I can understand how he must feel having lived with someone for so long. I hope you find a solution for them both and that they continue to improve.

Such a relief and such a worry for you! At least she will be well looked after in a Nursing Home, they really are the best places for the frail elderly. And your Dad will be able to visit as much as he wants without the worry of the looking after her.
(((hugs)))

Just read your post about your Dear mom. So sorry to hear that you and your family have been going through so much. She really does sound like a determined lady that will continue to live for many more years. Change like that is so hard, especially when it's your partner of so many amazing years. I can only imagine the heartache your Dad will feel. Sending you lots of love, hugs and prayers from across the water. xoxo
