Lunch in Trentham...

On Sunday, as part of our weekend away, Trader Vic and I and my uncle and aunt went to the charming little town of Trentham for lunch at The Cosmopolitan Hotel.

...now, the food was delicious!  My lamb shoulder melted in your mouth it was so tender and I am going to try to recreate the couscous salad one day.  BUT, the service was atrocious.  Despite having booked we were put in the far corner (after first being ignored when we walked into the restaurant) and then it took them 20 mins to bring us menus and 45 minutes before they came back to take our orders and then ages before our drinks arrived and then about an 1 hour and 40 mins before our meals came!  Not good, really and the reason I would hesitate to recommend going there for Sunday lunch.

As I said, the little town of Trentham is charming....

This sweet old fellow gave me a fright when I nearly walked into him - I thought he was a real person for a minute or two!

There are some gorgeous shops, this one had a double fireplace.

Love the detail on the lamp shade and the windows.

The original kitchen is now part of the shop.

... and I suppose this is true - the Queen has probably never known the joys of cooking/baking.  Rather sad, really.

This tea set tempted me, but no, no, no! I was strong!

Sweet cherubs on this marble seat....

... and there was this one shop which sold a Noah's Ark of animals....

This sign made me smile....

... and I spied this courtyard down a lane to the Redbeard Bakery. (which I have just discovered is For Sale, any takers? lol!)

So, that was our afternoon in Trentham, I can recommend a visit but maybe try one of the other cafes/restaurants if you are looking for lunch.

hugs,

Goodness me, that IS atrocious service.....I don't think I would have stayed for that long. The food did look good though.

Hello Kaye

Maybe the Queen was on cooking duties at the Hotel!
A great array of wonderful shops in the town.

Happy days.
Bev.

Your so lucky to have so many fun and interesting places to visit Kaye. I'm so jealous. I think I should come live with you for a while.

Sounds like a great day out (once you eventually got your lunch). I love that tea set too. Probably would have been out of my price range. I wonder where I could get one of those signs. Although it's a little early as the boys are still be bit young. I could always put it away! Great photos Kaye.

This little town sounds very inviting, contrarily to the restaurant where you were having lunch. Wow, that's absolutely bad customer service. I'm not sure if I were so patient and waited for such a long time.

That really was atrocious service - I'm not sure I would have stayed. I'm glad the food was delicious in the end.

What a cute town! Thanks for all the photos. And I love the teen-ager sign.
