Another fun weekend in Ballarat...

TraderVic and I popped up this weekend for a visit with two of our favourite people - my Uncle Ron and Aunt Iris (whom I am sure that I have posted about many times before).  We actually hadn't caught up with them since my Dad's funeral in August - isn't that shocking?  But time got away from us before Christmas and next thing we knew we were in London!

We arrived in Ballarat about lunchtime and had a very relaxing long lunch outside under the Medlar tree - so relaxing (the bottle of Prosecco that I shared with Iris may well have had something to do with it) that when we finished lunch around 3pm - I went to lay down for a little nap but fell into a deep sleep for two and a half hours!  (And what did TraderVic do whilst I was Sleeping Beauty - he walked around Lake Wendouree - TWICE! - that is 12kms!)

After my slumbers we went for a quick nosh at a local Thai restaurant on Sturt St (Brown Grain) - I had a delicious Pad Thai but NO more wine! lol!

Then it was a short walk to the Ballarat Mechanics Institute (founded in 1859) - a beautiful old building for some Spanish/Flamenco/Jazz music.

The musician was called Nancy Ruth who is a Canadian singer who lives in Spain. She and her band were amazing. The Gig was called "Sangria Jam".

One of my favourite of her songs was "Breathing in Indigo" - I found a video online of her singing it , if you are interested in listening - just click below.

For some reason a statue of the poet, Robbie Burns, graces Sturt Street (must be all those Scottish miners in the mid-19th century).

There was more music in store for us today (Sunday), when we went to the Ballarat Jazz Club to hear the Royal Garden Jazz Band - they were great, too.

We are two very happy travellers, now ready for the new week ahead!

I hope that you all had a great weekend, too.

 hugs,
