So excited!!!!!!

I am off to see the dress rehearsal of  My Fair Lady this afternoon at The Regent Theatre in Melbourne, with my Aqua Aerobics group and there is a very good chance that this wonderful lady will be there (she is the director).

I am so very excited and I will take some pics if I can!

The Alphabet Club_Saturday Detention for V....

is for

Yes, the mainstay breakfast spread of every Aussie kid....

It is yummy, delicious and best spread on toast!

Yum! Yum!

However, if you are a novice Vegemite eater, it is suggested that you start slowly.

Believe it or not, a lot of research goes into how best to eat Vegemite.

... and, of course, Vegemite was immortalised in one of our de facto Australian Anthems ...

.... Downunder by Men at Work....

If you would like to read more about the history of Vegemite, check out this website.

Anyway, that is all from me for the Letter V but let me explain what The Alphabet Club is all about ....

It is the brainchild of Chiara from The Grey Tail and Jo from Serendipitous Stitching and is loosely based on the premise of the movie "The Breakfast Club" - you can see the button for The Alphabet Club on my right sidebar.

On the first Saturday of each month, members of the club have "detention" and have to post about something that will enlighten others about their culture (as blogland is so diverse).  Of course, there should/could be something stitchy in there, if possible (although I seemed to have moved right away from that premise as the months have gone by, instead focusing on boring you all with quirky facts about Australia - lol!)

Each month will be a different letter of the alphabet - hence the club's name - and, of course, we started with "A" and now we are up to "V".

Oh Happy Dance!

Hello my lovely stitching friends,
Today I want to show you a couple of Happy Dances.....

First up is an old UFO, called Alphabet Sampler and it is from an old cross stitch magazine (I only seem to have my photocopied pages, but I think it is an old Jill Oxton mag).

When I picked it up for Friday Frolics a couple of weeks agon, I only had the outer border to do.

By the end of  the Friday evening, I was up to here:

So, as we had the long Easter weekend, I determined to finish it before I went back to work on Tuesday morning. This is how I went....

That heart in the mouth moment when you hope like mad that the border matches up!

Phew! It did!

And, here we go.... Success!  All finished!

I am just in love with it!  I love the soft, antique look of it and I can't wait to get it to the framers.

And my second one is an FFO, I framed (myself) Saturday's finish of The Snooty Parrot Sampler fob in a small frame.  I am very happy with how it looks.

Lastly, my monthly sewing group had a group project day recently and we all made a dilly-type bag.  I chose William Morris fabric and I am very pleased with the result.

The interior pockets and lining - isn't the fabric gorgeous?  Love that pink.

Inaugural Kitten Stitching Christmas in July Exchange_2017

After what seems to have been a quite successful Easter Exchange, and with a bit of encouragement from some of the happy participants, I have decided to host a Christmas in July swap!

Please feel free to join in the fun and use the badge below to link back to this post.

So, here goes with the rules:

  1. Open to swapping worldwide (although make sure that you leave enough time to post overseas, if that is what you are doing).
  2. No need for a blog but you must be an avid crossstitcher/quilter/crafter.
  3. Post your gifts to your recipient so that the parcel arrives by July 25th.
  4. Open your gifts on July 25th and blog about it asap (if I can I will try to have a link up post for you on the 25th) or else send me a pic of the gifts that you are sending (if you are a non-blogger)and I will place them on the link up post.
  5. Comment on this post only and BE CLEAR that you want to take part in the Exchange and BE CLEAR if you are NOT willing to post overseas and would prefer to post only within Australia (however, depending upon the number and locations of participants, be aware that this may not be possible).
  6. If you are a No-Reply-Commenter, please include your email address in your comment or email me directly at kayedep@gmail.com - otherwise I cannot contact you.
  7. There is a strictly "No Extras" rule.  So if you feel like you're the type of person who loves to add extra items to your swap, then this is not the swap for you.  We want to keep things simple.
And, what are we sending?  Let's keep it simple - much easier and much more achievable.

  • A handmade Christmas "Small" item item (could be a cross stitch design or a mug rug, or a cross-stitched card, etc).
  • Some Christmas  sweet treats (chocolates or the like)
  • A small Christmas decoration (does not need to be handmade)
  • Wrapped up in some Christmas fabric

So, if you would like to play.

Please comment on this Post only (take note of the rules above):

 BY FRIDAY, 19th, MAY

I will then try to get everyone paired up by Thursday, 25th May, to give us plenty of time to get crafty.

So excited about this - I hope that you will be, too.

Merry Christmas in July

Hugs,

P.S. Feel free to add the Exchange button (above) to the sidebar of your blog.

P.P.S. May the Fourth Be With You.

A couple of film reviews...

Last Saturday night, TradverVic and I went to the movies with some friends to see a Danish film, Land of Mine.

I have mixed feelings about the film. it was certainly riveting and very well-directed and acted (it has won awards and was nominated for an Oscar) but it was harrowing to watch.

The film is inspired by real events and tells the story of a group of very young (they looked to be fifteen or sixteen years of age) German POWs sent to clear mines in Denmark after World War II

It is believed that more than 2,000 German soldiers were forced to remove mines, and nearly half of them lost their lives or limbs. Many of them were only teenagers, as depicted by the boys in the movie.

But, as I said it was harrowing to watch these poor young men, far from home, risking life and limb to defuse the landmines, knowing that one of them could/would be blown up any second - and, of course, it did happen again and again in the most heartbreaking way.

There is an excellent review of the film here, if you would like to read it.
However, in a way, I am glad that I did see it - it is a story that deserves to be told as it underlines, yet again, the futility of war.

On a happier note, the week before I went to see Beauty and the Beast with my Dear Sister2 and my niece.

It was very lovely and we did so enjoy our girls day out but it's a funny thing, I think that Land of Mine was a far better movie and I would probably choose that over Beauty and the Beast.

Have a great day, everyone,

Do you want to see something scary?????

My DDIL gave me some marvellous face masks she brought back from Taiwan. She highly recommended this snail essence one, yes snails!!!!!

Now, as all of the instructions are in Mandarin - I think that I did it right.

Fright Night!

But I must admit that my skin now feels silky smooth - so I will definitely do it again sometime!

hugs,

P.S. I hope that I didn't give you a fright! lol!
P.P.S. The things that we do for beauty!
