However, I have a bit of dilemma, as I cannot decide which colour fabric to stitch on. All three fabrics are from my stash (as it was too expensive to order the design and all of the CC floss as well as the fabric - not when I have a drawer full of linen fabric of all descriptions).
I would love some advice as I keep wavering as to which one to choose:
Choice #1: A grey/brown linen.
Choice #2: A light blue linen.
Choice #4: An over-dyed buttery yellow linen (it is a bit yellower than this pic show).
I hope to start this in a week or two so plenty of time for me to procrastinate and prevaricate - so your thoughts would really help.
P.S. I am having ANOTHER Girl's Nest Giveaway (#6), click on the pic below if you would like to enter. Closes May 31st.

I am not sure that lots of white would show up so well on the yellow, although it is such a pretty colour. I particularly like the pale blue. x
I really like the dark natural fabric. The colors are so dramatic on it and just pop out of in. If not that, then the light blue. The third one is very pretty but I think you would lose the white on it.
This is a fantastic pattern Kaye. I would do the grey/brown linen!
I'm definitely voting for #1-- the grey/brown linen--the white would look fabulous on it! I have this chart, but haven't started it yet. I'm curious as to how you became so interested in all things Americana, Kaye? Have you been to the U.S.? I so hope to visit Australia one day :)
I also favour the grey/brown linen, Kaye.
Number 1!! I don't think the stars and states will contrast enough with the lighter linen to be visible, but I could be mistaken. I've switched from tossing an entire skein on the background color to just using two or four strands of thread. The thickness of the skein can be deceiving of the contrast. If the floss shows well, any of your choices would look wonderful.
I would go with the first one. I always use that color when there is alot of white
Linda
I like the pale blue... but then I am not a cross-stitch expert! Love the pattern though, it was a good one to splurge on! xx
I like the pale blue. Then the natural and the yellow third. I don't think there's enough contrast for the white thread.
The blue is pretty!
That's a neat little pattern! I think the natural linen color would suit the feel of the piece more but I am biased towards blue. Do you have a very slightly lighter brownish linen? Or maybe could coffee/tea dye a white one?
It looks like I am with the majority on this one. I like the first fabric as the white will show up better. I would be concerned that after some time, I might not be as happy with light blue. Number one is more neutral and will look lovely with the three colors. Of course, go with the one that pulls you the most. We all have our own tastes.
The more I look at the three pictures the more I tend towards the choice #1.
Looked at them and re-looked, I'm voting for the number 1 too
Perhaps everyone else is familiar with this pattern, but I'd like to know if the state names make up the entirety of the red / white stripes ... because that sort of affects my choice in fabric. Is there also a single line at top and bottom of each stripe to better define it?
While I'd love to see it on the light blue - which might be best if there are demarcation lines as well as letters making up those stripes - I believe all three colors will show better, and perhaps even pop a bit, on choice #1 which looks rather close to a number of my unbleached linen pieces.
Far more input than you really wanted, I'm sure! :)
Hi Kaye,
I think I would go with #1...it will show the colors you going to put into the pattern. I'd also love to join you Americana SAL. I'll be sending you an email shortly. Have a great day!
I'm terrible with linen choices, but I'd personally prefer the first choice, the grey-brown linen. I think it would look nice and the colors -- especially the white-- would work well. I'd worry about the white disappearing on that last choice. Looking forward to seeing you stitching this one!
Hi, Kaye. I would definitely choose the gray/brown linen. Kisses, my friend.
I think the top fabric would show the stitches up really well, especially with the lettering. Explaining lashed out made me smile. I'm an Aussie and have been living in North Carolina for four years and it sometimes feels like I speak a different language! lol
