The Fellowship of the Ring and TPs

..... Last night I had the best night out with DS1 - we went to see the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra perform the score of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring whilst the film was playing on a giant screen behind them.  They also had a full choir and guest singers.  It was both awesome and awe-inspiring!

Australia's own Cate Blanchett (she actually went to the same Primary School as my two youngest children)

It was so interesting, it was the first time that I have been to a concert with such a mix of people attending.  There were young children there with their parents, young couples in their 20s, older couples  - basically people of every age.

Hamer Hall at the Arts Centre has just recently been renovated and the acoustics were amazing!

... and of course, the movie has many things to recommend it:

Who doesn't adore Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and I would so love to live in a Hobbit House:

Now, some stitchy news:

Firstly, I have finished the Busy Needles Travelling Pattern:

I am really pleased with my finish - it is stitched on 28 count Cocoa Cashel Linen using a mixture of Weeks and Gentle Art threads.

So, time to send Busy Needle onto the next lucky stitcher, Patty (not sure of her blog).

Now, it is onto the next Travelling Pattern: Summer Garden by Little House Needleworks.

Using this as the backing fabric (the rules of the TP):

When I finish it, I will be looking for the next stitcher interested in stitching it.

I started it yesterday and on this linen:

But, despite having carefully chosen it with Wendy, the lovely owner of Lazy Daisy Needlework, my LNS, I didn't like the look of it, so I am using that Cocoa Cashel Linen again.  I think that it is going to look stunning!  Here is my floss toss:

Enjoy your Sunday, everyone, I am off to the supermarket shortly, then for a walk and this afternoon I am going to an afternoon tea for a friend's 50th birthday - such a busy weekend (I also forgot to tell you that on Friday night TraderVic and I went to see "On the Road" - interesting film).

hugs,

How fantastic to listen to the score for The Fellowship Of The Ring live and see the film at the same time. Younger DS and I are green with envy :):)

That would be an amazing way to hear the music of the film. Lucky you!

Your finish is very pretty and I love the choices for your new TP. The backing fabric goes so well with the colours in the stitching.

That must have been an awesome show to see and hear! I went to a Star Wars in concert with an orchestra too.

Congrats on the finish of your traveling pattern. The bee is cute!

Summer Garden will be very pretty. When you said the backing fabric is in the rules of the TP, do you mean that exact pattern? Or it is the rule to have any backing fabric? Your floss colors match perfectly!

Hi Debbie, no it can be any fabbie but you need to choose it first and then choose your floss accordingly.

Earlier this summer I saw the same show at the National Arts Center for Canada and it was an amazing experience. I was so impressed with he orchestra and choir!!! When the movie was over I just couldn't beleive when they also did the score from the credits as well! I'm hoping we get The Two Towers and Return of the King at some point!!!!!

Beautiful stitching!

Man.... that sounds awesome!! I'd loooove to go to one of those deals. They had a Star Wars one here... but I'm not a huge fan, but LOTR?? I'm there!!! :D

I'm more of a Legolas kinda girl, so Aragorn is all yours. ;)

Congrats on the Busy Needle finish. It's darling!

Oh man, a LotR orchestra performance must have been amazing! I've been to a Final Fantasy performance before and could totally find space in my life for more orchestras.

The traveling pattern is gonna look awesome! :D

Wow It must have been amazing to see the orchestra playing like that. I am SO jealous!

BTW - Aragorn is mine. If you want him you will have to fight me for him...scissors at dawn?
